Toll-Free Numbers

Toll-Free Numbers

A toll-free number is a special telephone that enables callers to reach a business or individual without being charged for the call. The toll-free subscriber pays for the incoming calls. If you’re interested in a toll-free number, please keep the following facts in mind:

  • Toll-free numbers forward to one assigned phone number.
  • Toll-free numbers are unpublished by default. You can add your toll-free number to your telephone directory listing for an additional monthly fee.
  • Telephone numbers can be ported from other providers.
  • New host telephone numbers can be assigned to a toll-free number.
  • The terminating number cannot be located outside of the Midco network area.

Installation charges may apply for a toll-free number, depending on the number requested. The toll-free long-distance usage rate is the same as the current standard long-distance rate.

How to Restrict Calls to Your Toll-Free Number

Some businesses may want to limit incoming toll-free calls to callers from specific geographic regions. This can reduce the cost associated with mistaken, unnecessary or fraudulent calls. At Midco, your toll-free number can be set up to receive calls from:

  • All callers
  • North Dakota only
  • South Dakota only
  • North Dakota and South Dakota only
  • The region that includes South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming and Montana
  • U.S. only (all 50 states)
  • U.S. (all 50 states) and Canada
  • U.S. (all 50 states) and the Caribbean
  • U.S. (all 50 states), Canada and the Caribbean

Toll-free numbers cannot accept international calls, with the exception of those originating from regions that participate in the North American dialing plan. Visit www.nanpa.com for additional details.

How to Request a Vanity Toll-Free Number

Vanity toll-free numbers are available if you do not want a randomly assigned toll-free number. Contact Midco customer care to make your request, and we will confirm whether the phone number is available. If we successfully acquire your requested number, vanity-toll free charges will apply to your account, in addition to the standard toll-free charges.
