Quick Internet Tips

Quick Internet Tips

Here are some additional ways you can troubleshoot internet issues you may be having – and get back online soon.

Internet Down

When all devices have no internet:

  • Reboot your equipment.
    • IMPORTANT: If you reboot your optical network unit (ONU), it will reboot all equipment and devices connected to it – including your equipment for Midco internet and phone services. As a business, we recommend you avoid reboots during busy times of day if possible.
  • Check if there’s an outage in your area.
  • If you still can’t get connected, contact us.

When one device has no internet:

  • Turn turning the device off and then back on again.
  • Confirm your device is connected to your Wi-Fi network (and not a neighboring Wi-Fi network).
  • Make sure you have entered the correct Wi-Fi password.

If that doesn’t resolve your connection issues, contact the device manufacturer for help.

Slow Internet

If you use wireless internet, keep in mind that wireless speeds will never match speeds on hardwired devices. Due to different types of wireless interference, Wi-Fi speeds could be up to 50% less than expected on hard-wired devices.

Here are some things to try to troubleshoot slow internet speeds.

  • If you haven’t already, check your speeds with a hardwired connection.
  • If the internet speeds are fine on most devices, but seems slow on one, try turning the device off and back on again.
    • Older devices may not be able to get the same speeds as newer devices.
    • Older devices may also slow down the internet speeds on all your devices connected to the same network. Try disconnecting older devices and then retesting your speeds.
  • Reboot your equipment.
    • IMPORTANT: If you reboot your optical network unit (ONU), it will reboot all equipment and devices connected to it – including your equipment for Midco internet and phone services. As a business, we recommend you avoid reboots during busy times of day if possible.
  • Make sure your devices are up to date. Learn how equipment factors affect internet speed – and some ways you can troubleshoot.

If you’re still experiencing slow speeds, contact us.

ONU Power Light Off

If your ONU light is off, there is no power going to your ONU. Check that the power cord is plugged in tightly to the back of your equipment. Also, confirm that you do not have a power outage to your business.

If you still do not have power to your ONU, contact us.

Wireless Gateway or Router Power Light Off

If the power light for your wireless gateway or router is off, it means there is no power going to that specific equipment.

  • Check that the power cord is plugged into the wall outlet.
  • If your outlet can be controlled by a light switch, be sure the switch is set to power on.
  • Try plugging your wireless gateway or router into a different wall outlet.

Contact us for further assistance if you still don’t have power to your wireless gateway.
