Trunk Lines
Trunk lines – or trunkings – use one central line and that disperses into multiple lines to handle inbound and outbound calls. The solution allows businesses to effectively manage many calls at once – without needing to purchase a dedicated phone line for each number.
How can we handle that much power? We use our reliable Midco Network to connect businesses to the world around them – that includes the ability to securely make calls.

Session initiation protocol or SIP phone lines take advantage of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) – meaning your phone conversations are converted to data that’s sent over the IP network, all while maintaining call quality.
If you need to scale your lines, SIP also provides more flexibility than T1 technology. Whether you require one or 1,000 sessions at once, we can add SIP lines as needed. It's scalable to suit your business.
SIP Tech Specs
- SIP includes an ingate session border controller in the Midco cloud to handle interworking between the customer IP private branch exchange (PBX) and the Midco switch.
- If you need 500 or more SIP sessions, you may require a premises-based hardware ingate.
- SIP PBXs can be virtualized and offer more robust disaster recovery and routing solutions.
SIP Quality of Service
Midco SIP lines run on our own network, meaning your connection will always be clear because Midco's private network doesn't traverse the public internet. In fact, we're so committed to uptime, you get a quality of service (QoS) commitment when you sign a SIP contract with Midco.
If you’ve invested in T1 technology and need more capacity, our technicians can help you. We collaborate with your IT team throughout the entire process to ensure everything meets your specifications.
You can scale T1 lines in blocks of 23 sessions, giving more of your employees their own extension off the main voice line. This makes it easier for your customers to contact you as they only need to know the main number.
PRI T1 Tech Specs
- PRI handoff includes an ADTRAN router at the customer site, taking the incoming SIP signal from the switch and converting it to a TDM/analog handoff.
- PRIs require a hardware device with a T1/PRI interface, which is older technology and can limit flexibility.

SIP lines use VoIP, are more flexible and give you features not available with T1 technology.
If you’re installing brand new equipment, you should consider SIP trunk lines.
From our experience, most customers are moving away from PRI-based PBX to SIP-enabled PBXs.
