Preparing for Emergencies
Read time: 5 minutes
Each September, the United States observes National Preparedness Month to help people prepare for any disaster – whether it be man-made or natural. At Midco®, we know how disruptive – and potentially dangerous – these disasters can be. That’s why we’re constantly working, planning and preparing for whatever comes our way to get our customers back online safely and efficiently.
How we prepare.
Because an emergency can happen at any time, Midco is prepared all the time. From built-in redundancies to an entire team dedicated to monitoring our network, we have plans in place to move quickly and alert our Critical Response team when you need us most.
Network Operations Center
Our Network Operations Center (NOC) operates 24/7/365, constantly monitoring every mile of our network. This network was built with emergencies in mind. It is highly redundant in order to keep an outage or a disaster from touching customers in other areas.
In the event of a disaster, the NOC is the central point of communication regarding network outages. This team of experts performs real-time surveillance of key network devices and alerts our team and customers to any interruption of service. They are prepared to immediately dispatch network specialists to any location should it need attention.

Redundancy for the win.
When it comes to reliability, redundancy is your friend. We’ve built redundant fiber rings in both rural and urban areas across our network. This adds capacity to our core network infrastructure, enhancing our 99.999% core network reliability.
Business Continuity Plan
To keep things at your business running if an emergency occurs, we make sure our team knows exactly what to do. Our Business Continuity Plan is our blueprint for how we respond, including:
- Notifying team members
- Assembling recovery teams
- Recovering data
- Resuming operations with minimal disruptions
No matter how much we plan, our facilities still aren’t immune to disasters. However, just like our network, we’ve designed many of our buildings with redundant power sources. This means we can get back up and running faster – and so can our customers.
How we respond.
A disaster can happen within minutes. Midco has plans in place to get our teams on the ground and communicating with customers as quickly and safely as possible.
Crisis Response Team
Midco has team members across the company ready to start communication and response efforts immediately after an emergency. This Crisis Response Team provides real-time updates to quickly communicate internally with our departments and externally to our customers.
“Our teams understand the importance and take pride in what we do. In the event of a disaster, we have teams lined up at any time of the day or night to help get our customers back up and running quickly.”
- Ben Dold, Chief Operating Officer

Field Operations Disaster Recovery Plan
After planning and communicating, the last step in the process is having the right team in place to hit the ground running once it’s safe to get homes and businesses reconnected to services.
Our expert field teams are specially trained to handle damage to our network done by storms and other natural disasters. Our disaster recovery plan helps each team member know their exact role to communicate and address outages.
