Midco Partners with Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence
Lawrence, KS: Knowing the value of a safe, positive place for middle and high school students after school and during summer months, Midco has awarded $50,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence and the new Center for Great Futures. The money will be used to provide staff, equipment and programming for the Midco Technology and Digital Arts Program. The program will focus on web design, digital animation and digital badging.
“Midco has been a great supporter of our work since they arrived in Lawrence,” said Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence CEO, Colby Wilson. “We are grateful for their support, not only in dollars, but also in their commitment to helping youth prepare for their futures.”
A citywide facility for teens, the Center for Great Futures connects to the Lawrence College and Career Center. The Center for Great Futures will provide age-appropriate supervision and programming, and it will accommodate the increasing number of young people who would like to continue to be members of the Boys & Girls Club.
“This partnership really fits into our initiatives to appeal to – and serve more – teens in Lawrence,” Wilson said. “We want our kids to graduate high school with a plan. It is our goal to expose them to this level of technology and career opportunities.”
The Center for Great Futures (2910 Haskell Ave.) will open its doors to teens on Aug. 16. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is open to the public and will take place Sept. 6 at 4 pm.
